Rescue Pet Biography

Adoptable dogs have been vaccinated, fecal tested/dewormed, heartworm tested, are up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, health-checked by a vet, and, most importantly, spayed or neutered.

Fortunately, this pet has already been adopted!

Astro

Gender: Male
Age: Baby
Breed: Chihuahua Rat Terrier mix

Description:

Brother to Ivory. and born in January of 2007. Very sweet and affectionate. Very well socialized.

This sweet boy was found to have a grade 5 heart murmur. This is very big news for such a tiny little puppy. The vet has suspicions of what is causing the heart murmur, but only an ECG (electrocardiogram) will tell us for sure what Astro is facing. Without the ECG, we are blind to how to treat or cure his heart murmur. Without the ECG, Astro has no chance of ever finding a loving adoptive family and may even mean he will not live to see his first birthday. Generous people have donated most of the monies needed to care for Astro, but we still have a way to go.

Thank you to everyone who generously donated toward the care of Astro.

**Update**
Astro had his ECG by an experienced Vet. He has an irreparable, congenital systolic heart murmur. He has been put on appropriate medications to maximize his quality of life and help his heart work the best that it can. According to the Vet, the heart murmur will eventually cause heart failure. Typically, pups born with this severe of a murmur only live 8-12 months. Astro has been placed in a respite home. He has no idea that anything is wrong with him, and he enjoys playing with his chihuahua friend at his new home and his cuddle time with his people. The volunteer who is caring for Astro understands the care Astro will require and is prepared for everything that may happen in Astro's future. Again, we thank everyone who contributed to Astro's veterinary care. Because of your generousity, he will be able to live the rest of his short life happy and comfortable and blissfully ignorant of his disability.
